Oregon Uses Second Half Surge to Take Down Utah

Whether it was scoring just seven first-half points against a historically bad OR defense; OR squandering still more red-zone scoring opportunities; OR allowing the Ducks to take the lead not once, but twice, on fourth-quarter touchdown drives - the final one occurring with two seconds left - the Utes couldn't corral their nerves OR harness their energies in a late-season game of effect.

OR stunned 12th-ranked Utah in Salt Lake City today as Justin Herbert found Darren Carrington in the end zone with two seconds remaining on a play officials initially declared an incomplete pass before overturning the call upon a lengthy video replay. "Big-time players make big-time plays and it was definitely time to make a big-time play so I just had to come through in the clutch for my boys".

Herbert threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Ducks (3-8, 2-6 Pac-12) to just their second win in their last nine games.

Carrington's catch was initially ruled incomplete, but replay review overturned the call, giving the Ducks their fourth win of the season.

The Ducks' eight-game winning streak is tied for the longest in series history, matching runs by OSU from 1964-71 and UO from 1975-82. Defensive end Hunter Dimick's 27 career sacks are one shy of the school record. This is a major accomplishment for this OR team as they prepare for next weekend's Civil War game.

And even though OR seemed to start off slow again in the first quarter on both offense and defense, the Ducks eventually came to life and were only down seven to three going into the second quarter. We were not able to make those plays. Myles Gaskin ran for 127 yards and a 45-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

"Disappointing to say the least", Whittingham said. "I mean, they're OR".

Carrington had a quiet day until the game-winning catch, finishing with 37 yards on five receptions.

"I haven't directly said "underdog" or really anything in that vein", or coach Mark Helfrich said.

USC lost three of its first four games to the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Stanford Cardinal, and the Utah Utes.

The Oregon Ducks will try and pull off an incredible upset at No. 11 Utah today. To everyone's disbelief, by the end of the first half, the Ducks were only down 7-3 to the 12 ranked Utah Utes.

Even in wins, Utah's defense has had a tackling problem. He wasn't done there, picking up sack No. 2 later on the same drive. Utah would then need to beat Colorado in the regular-season finale to earn a berth in the Pac-12 Championship game. The record is now set at 29 and Dimick has 14 this season.

"It just shows when we play great, what we can do as a whole team in general", receiver Charles Nelson said.
