Cam Newton surprises young fan with a hospital visit

All Taylor Deckard wished for this Christmas was to meet Carolina Panthers and former Auburn Tigers quarterback Cam Newton.

Austin was recently diagnosed with advanced pulmonary hypertension and scheduled to undergo a risky procedure days after Christmas.

One of Deckard's teachers, Courtney Cooper, started a social media campaign she hoped would unite Deckard with Newton, the boy's favorite player.

Newton visited Austin, of Phenix City, at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, according to a representative at the Cam Newton Foundation.

It was right before Thanksgiving that the boy told Cooper he would like to meet Newton.

The Auburn Tigers also captured the touching moment on their Snapchat.

Before he became the NFL MVP, Newton won the Heisman Trophy as Auburn's starting quarterback.

Deckard, decked out in an Auburn jersey, was shocked when he saw Newton but it didn't take long for him to wrap Newton in a big bear hug.

Newton gave Austin an Under Armour bag full of swag and they played around with nerf guns.

"His prognosis is not good", Cooper wrote of Austin.

So whether Newton's season on the field went as planned or not, it was still an unforgettable one.

Austin is expected to have the stent implanted on Friday.
