Malcolm Butler Reportedly Signs Restricted Free Agent Tender With Patriots

Malcolm Butler has signed his tender from the New England Patriots, opening the door for a potential trade.

Butler could remain with the Patriots for one more season before becoming an unrestricted free agent after this, his fourth season. New Orleans did not extend an offer sheet, but could be interested in acquiring Butler via trade.

"I think our philosophy has always been that we want to put good football players on our football team, regardless of position", Caserio said.

The Patriots now hold no first or second-round selections in the upcoming draft, but the Saints have shown interest in Butler, brining him in for a visit earlier in free agency.

The Atlanta Falcons are on New England's home schedule this season and could have been an option for a Super Bowl rematch in Week 1.

The New England Patriots were shopping backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo early in the offseason for a pair of high draft picks, and while no deal has come close to happening.

While the Patriots and Bill Belichick aren't exactly prone to making splashes, one could be just what this franchise needs to stay on top in 2017.

In fact, the main contributors lost from last season's team (Martellus Bennett, Chris Long and Logan Ryan) were replaced by players younger or the same age (Dwayne Allen, Kony Ealy and Stephon Gilmore respectively).

At this point, the Patriots have seven picks to work with when the party gets started on April 27.

So look to the offensive line, the defensive front seven, and at strong safety as the Patriots make their picks in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Malcolm Butler is a Patriot again.
