Reasons Why is now streaming on Netflix

The 24-year-old singer made a decision to turn the novel penned by Jay Asher into a miniseries on Netflix, and the powerhouse - who is the executive producer of the Netflix program - feels "lucky" she was able to bring the book to life with her television adaptation. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old singer posted a video on Twitter debuting her own rendition of the '80s hit "Only You".

"After 6 years waiting to find the flawless Hannah and Clay for @13reasonswhy I couldn't be luckier we cast these two", Gomez wrote in February.

This show follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minette) on his search to understand the reason why his crush, Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), committed suicide.

Based on the 2007 novel by Jay Asher, 13 Reasons Why, the series mainly sticks to the path of the novel with only slight detours, during its 13 episode descent into mystery, grief and confusion. And while 13 Reasons Why certainly doesn't go out of its way to villainize half of its cast, it's a strangely revolutionary admission within the teen drama pantheon that still feels totally true to its characters. For a pop of color, the 13 Reasons Why executive producer opted for cobalt blue nail polish. "And if you're listening to this tape, you're one of the reasons why".

"I'm about to tell you the story of my life".

"That's why I wanted to make sure I was still a part of this project in any way", says Gomez, who has appeared in films such as Monte Carlo (2011) and The Fundamentals Of Caring (2016), and at one point considered playing Hannah herself in a film adaptation. Each episode focuses in on a different tape, given to the 13 people including her admirer and friend Clay (Dylan Minnette). But who knows, by the story's end, maybe it's Hannah who's the tormentor, and they're, in fact, the victims?

"If she keeps producing, she's going to be a favorite producer for everyone, I'm sure", he told CNN.

"Our show @13reasonswhy came out tonight and I couldn't be more overwhelmed with pride and joy", Gomez wrote. The many others who have already listened to them - or who are destined to listen to them after Clay - include Hannah's former best friend, Jessica (Alisha Boe), arrogant jock Bryce (Justin Prentice), school counsellor Mr Porter (Derek Luke) and Hannah's grief-stricken parents (Kate Walsh and Brian d'Arcy James). "The rest of us won't have as much patience for the show's excessively convoluted, repetitive and unlikely story, or for the narrative gimmick reflected in its title".
