SP lost elections due to its own follies: Mulayam

The renewal of public display of acrimony between party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal Yadav has led to a fresh spate of sackings in the Samajwadi Party.

Immediately after Mr. Shivpal had announced his "secular morcha" plan, Mr. Akhilesh had warned that he knew how to identify "asteen ka saanp (snake hiding under the sleeves)".

The minister said, "The Congress party did not leave a single chance to ruin my life and Akhilesh formed an alliance with the same party for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections". She added that the government should be appreciated for their good work.

Further hitting at the Congress he said, the grand old party had lodged various cases against him.

Hitting out at Mishra over his allegations of corruption against Kejriwal, Singh claimed Mishra had himself written a letter to the ACB in September past year, saying that the anti-graft body was trying to implicate the chief minister in the water tanker scam under pressure even when his name was not mentioned in the evidence.

Party sources said that a Samajwadi Party split is imminent and there is a waiting game on as to who blinks first.

After the SP's drubbing in the February-March assembly elections, Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger brother Shivpal Yadav has been flexing his political muscle and has voiced his criticism of Akhilesh openly.

"In order to restore his (Mulayam) lost dignity and to bring all the Samajwadis together, there will soon be an announcement of this secular front in Lucknow", Shivpal told ANI.

Earlier in April, Shivpal had urged former state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to embrace Mulayam as the party head again. Shivpal is also likely to meet senior leaders to tap in to discontent. "I had not been the member of the illegal convention of the party which elected Akhilesh as the national president, so he does not have any right to expel me", Shahid reacted to his sacking. I should have taken over as the Chief Minister in 2012.

Mulayam admitted that Shivpal was angry but stressed that the latter had worked hard for the party. "As for the Samajwadi Party, it has passed every test and will continue to do so".
