Apple CEO Says Repatriation Tax Should Be Mandatory Levy

While discussing user security and privacy in the face of these grave instances, such as the Manchester or London bombings, Cook goes on to mention that Apple isn't just sitting back and watching the show.

"We have been cooperating with the United Kingdom government not only in law enforcement kind of matters but on some of the attacks", he said. "But in cases when we have information and they have gone through the lawful process we don't just give it but we do it very promptly", he added. In the aftermath of the terror attack, U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May said that Internet laws should be stricter and asked Internet companies to remove any online medium terrorists can use to communicate.

Cook, however, did not reveal which attack (or attacks) he was referring to.

Apple "deeply cares" about Music, after creating the iPod, and wants to reinvent music in the home as well, Cook said.

The company was also involved in a stand-off with the Federal Bureau of Investigation previous year over gaining access to the locked iPhone of a terror suspect. The FBI wanted Apple to break the encryption of the iPhone through a special version of the iOS to look into the shooter's communications.

Cook, however, clarified that providing metadata is different from breaking encryption.

Cook further stated that Apple did not shy from responding to any official queries for data, adding that he hoped law enforcement "would say that we've been cooperating well". To what extent Apple has been able to help with the investigation unknown. Cook sent an email to staff last week reassuring them that Apple would continue to protect the environment.

Apple has $257 billion in cash reserves, and most of it is outside of the U.S. Like many CEOs, Cook has supported U.S. President Donald Trump's repatriation push. Cook is said to have talked with Trump before the president's decision, urging him to keep the United States in the climate accord, which covers initiatives that look to reduce pollution and lessen the effects of climate change.
