Coroner: Nevada woman says child's body in IL garage

Las Vegas police Lt. Raymond Spencer told the St. Louis-Dispatch that the woman who tipped police to the decomposing remains went to police to report that not only was her husband forcing her into prostitution but abusing two of the children in their home, who were kept in strict isolation. The woman reportedly told shelter workers that she had escaped after being held captive in her Las Vegas apartment and sex trafficked by her husband for the last two years.

She also told authorities the body of her "baby" - 6-year-old Alyssa - could be found in the Centreville garage at 7201 Russell Ave. Investigators believe the child was killed in Belleville, Illinois, in 2013. St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly didn't immediately respond to messages about the warrant.

She said her husband had killed their third daughter, 6, during an altercation when the family was still living in IL.

Quate was jailed after his wife told police that he killed their then-6-year-old daughter in 2013 and hid the body in IL. Police are seeking sex trafficking and child abuse charges. They needed support from police to get into the auto that took them away and into protective custody, he said. She said she would not allow authorities to enter and check the children's well-being.

Belleville detectives were sent to Las Vegas to work on the case, while others focused Wednesday on a Belleville home, Master Sgt. Todd Keilbach said Wednesday.

Quate declined an interview request on Thursday from The Associated Press.

The woman is jailed in Las Vegas as a fugitive on a warrant filed in IL.

Quate had initially been charged with sex trafficking of an adult and accepting/receiving earnings of a prostitute, jail records show.

Spencer said officers were told the woman's remaining children, who are in their early teens, were never allowed outside, even to attend school.

"We're looking at the behavior of both of them for potential criminal charges", Wolfson said.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Clair County police found the remains in an abandoned home after the child's own mother gave them a tip that a body would be found there. A man has been arrested on multiple charges from that investigation, said Las Vegas Officer Laura Meltzer. He was also charged with theft in 2000.

The family moved to Las Vegas two years ago. A body was found Tuesday in a garage in Centreville, Illinois, near St. Louis.
