Nintendo reveals classic SNES console

Nintendo reveals classic SNES console

Nintendo announced Monday that they're re-releasing a version of the mini Nintendo game system that we all know and love. However, one of the biggest areas of criticism about the device was the length of its controller cords. Nintendo says the SNES Classic's controllers will use 5-foot cables, or a full 2 feet longer than what you saw with its NES predecessor.

"We aren't providing specific numbers, but we will produce significantly more units of Super NES Classic Edition than we did of NES Classic Edition", Nintendo said in a statement sent to Gamespot, among other outlets. The games are all internal, and we hope, like the Classic Edition NES, you can save at any time.

The design of the Japanese SNES Classic and the USA version are very different, like in the 90s.

Unfortunately, it looks like the SNES Classic is another limited time offer, like the NES Classic Mini was.

The NES Classic Mini should have been a home run for Nintendo- and if the intent was to generate some awareness and buzz around the Nintendo brand again, then I guess it was. Yes, Nintendo intends to release the long-lost Star Fox 2 as part of the SNES Classic Edition lineup. And they made it a true bonus game: The only way to unlock the new game is through playing (and hopefully beating) the original StarFox game.

These Nintendo games would be considered classics by anyone's standards, and some of them in particular - Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 3, EarthBound and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - are massive role-playing games that can take dozens of hours to complete. An HDMI cable is included in the box, along with a USB cable but NOT an AC power plug. Bear in mind that just because EB Games is accepting pre-orders doesn't mean it will have enough consoles to go around.

Here's how much it'll cost, and when you'll be able to buy it in Australia.

As was previously rumored, Nintendo has officially announced the Super Nintendo Classic Edition.
