Kingdom Hearts 3 arrives in 2018, to fans' relief

Kingdom Hearts creator and video game legend Tetsuya Nomura announced the world on stage, revealing, 'I've always hoped that Toy Story would be part of the Kingdom Hearts series.

Fans of Toy Story now get to experience a brand new chapter for Woody and friends in Kingdom Hearts III. After successfully defeating their foes, the trio is greeted by none other than Woody, Buzz and the gang from the Toy Story franchise.

Toy Story joins a revamped Hercules, Tangled, and Big Hero 6 as locations that are confirmed for Kingdom Hearts III.

"If we were to announce yet another non-Kingdom Hearts 3, people are going to be like, "Hey, what's going on?" Kingdom Hearts 3 will mark the first time any game in the series has appeared on a Microsoft console.

Previous Kingdom Hearts games have included segments where players took control of characters other than Sora, so this isn't enormous news, but it's still good to know.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One, or possibly PS9 and Xbox Minus 1800, depending on when it finally condenses out of the vapour. "Kingdom Hearts III", the next game from developer Square Enix, will launch sometime in 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Nomura also discussed why Kingdom Hearts 3 features a party system that allows for more than two additional members to fight alongside Sora. Unfortunately the game is now set for a release in 2018, but the good news is that Square Enix and Disney have additional footage that they recently shared. We'll keep you updated with more information along the way. In addition, certain timing and resources challenges within Square Enix had an effect. Once seen as a head-scratching experiment to combine the best of Disney and Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts has earned widespread critical and popular acclaim.

In the same interview, Nomura also spoke about development having taken so much time.

Instead, he plans to add those worlds as downloadable content (DLC).
