National Enquirer denies coordinating with White House on Scarborough, Brzezinski story

National Enquirer denies coordinating with White House on Scarborough, Brzezinski story

"I get exhausted reacting to the president's constant use of Twitter, and I just think he needs to focus on the issues".

The TV hosts responded on Friday with an opinion piece in The Washington Post titled "Donald Trump is not well", questioning his "unmoored behavior" and fitness to serve. "We ignored their desperate pleas".

"He appears to have a fragile, impetuous, child-like ego that we've seen over and over again, especially with women", Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe". said on the programme. On Saturday morning he referred to Scarborough as "Crazy Joe" and Brzezinski as "dumb as a rock".

On Friday, he called "Morning Joe" a "bad show". "My mom told me to get it done", she explained.

American Media said in a statement "we have no knowledge of any discussions between the White House and Joe and Mika about our story, and absolutely no involvement in those discussions".

President Trump's tweet about MSNBC hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough was vile, misogynistic and most likely false on multiple counts. Scarborough also disclosed White House aides had called to threaten him, demanding he stop his criticism of Trump or else the National Enquirer would publish an unflattering story.

The shocking tweet is presumed to be a response to a segment the show did that morning which took aim at a fake Time magazine cover featuring Trump that hangs at several of Trump's golf clubs and properties, according to The Washington Post.

Brzezinski also said that they received a call about the Enquirer story - actually she said "three people at the very top of the administration" were calling her to urge her and Scarborough to apologize to the president.

Trump did make room in the tirade to attack CNN as "garbage journalism".

"I know Melania. I haven't talked to her in months, but if my gut is right, I don't think she's going to put up with it much longer", Ms Brzezinski said.

The National Enquirer has been one of Mr Trump's strongest supporters, with the President previously reported to have a close relationship with the chief executive of the tabloid's parent company. The story cited the following tweet from Trump from last August.

- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 29, Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me.
