Elon Musk Posts First Photo Of SpaceX Spacesuit

Anytime you think about the modern space race and the billionaires who are trying to make it happen, chances are that Elon Musk of SpaceX and Jeff Bezos of Blue Origin pop into your head. In other words, it would have been easy to develop an functional yet ugly suit or an awesome-looking suit that offers no protection from the vacuum of space. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. "Easy to do either separately", Musk said in an Instagram post that has already been liked nearly a quarter of a million times.

The Verge was the first to spot the photo.

NASA says the suits for Orion missions will be modified versions of the bright orange jumpsuits astronauts wore for take off and landing during Shuttle missions.

Musk had previously teased for his 11.7 million Twitter followers that images of the buzzed about space suit were coming.

Houston, we have a new spacesuit!

The Dragon spacecraft was originally designed for human travel, but so far has only been used to deliver cargo to the International Space Station (ISS).

"First picture of SpaceX spacesuit", Musk said. He is also involved in resupply missions, with plans of expanding those efforts. But the technical details will have to wait for a future reveal. Both companies have expressed confidence about completing crew test flights in 2018, but their timelines have slipped in the past and may do so again.

In 2016 Jose Fernandez, the costume designer for onscreen superheroes such as Batman, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America, said he'd been contacted by Musk to develop a costume for SpaceX.

Within the circle of SpaceX fans, flightsuit development has attached itself to a considerable amount of hype over the years, with many hints and teasers that indicated it would be extremely slick and aesthetically pleasing.
