HTC lowers Vive price to compete with Facebook's Oculus

Many also regard it as the most impressive VR system, although Facebook's Oculus Rift is similarly advanced.

This new price drop is clearly created to make the Vive more accessible to a wider market, and brings it closer to the Rift's current £400 price point. Now a majority of people crave to own a VR headset to experience this novelty or simply as a status symbol. At $599, the Vive has become more affordable for businesses looking at proof-of-concept pilots.

At the beginning of the year, both Oculus and HTC offered their flagship VR headsets and motion controllers for approximately $800, but after the recent discounts, the Oculus Rift is now available for $399, nearly half of the debut price. You won't get the Deluxe Audio Strap or DAS which is useful for adding headphones to the Vive while providing a comfortable experience. The new price is applicable to, and we can expect that price to move through the e-tail and retail channel. In the box, youll find two wireless controllers, two base stations, earbuds, the link box and some additional accessories.

Most marketing research companies such as Superdata put Oculus Rift in last place in terms of unit sales. "We don't feel the need to cut the price of Vive, as we've had incredible success, and continue to see great momentum in market", he said. The company had kept quiet on a drop in price, keeping its head-mounted display (HMD) at its launch price of $799.

HTC notes that all Vive purchases include a free trial to Viveport Subscription, granting access to up to five titles per month to experience, as well as copies of popular VR software such as Google's Tilt Brush, EverestVR and Richie's Plank Experience.

The Chairwoman of HTC, Cher Wang announced this price drop in a statement made on Monday. And according to HTC, there are now more than 3600 titles available to play on the Vive across Steam and Viveport with many more on their way including Fallout 4 and Doom.
