Jay Cutler Un-Retiring To Join Dolphins On $10M Contract

Multiple sources have indicated Cutler is signing a one-year deal with Miami worth $10 million, plus incentives. Cutler left football this offseason to join Fox's NFL broadcasting team.

Cutler is expected to compete with Matt Moore for the Dolphins' starting job while Ryan Tannehill remains out with a left knee injury that could sideline him for the entire season.

According to Jeff Darlington of ESPN, Cutler has given the Dolphins' situation a lot of thought, and may still be swayed by coach Adam Gase. "I'd like to know exactly with Ryan first, to be honest with you, so that helps me make a decision what direction I want to go". Here are the latest details on the Jay Cutler deal with the Dolphins as well as Tannehill's status. He also threw the lowest number of interceptions (11) in a season where he appeared in at least 15 games.

While it's unknown if Tannehill will elect for surgery, it was reported several days ago by CSN Philly that it is an option for him.

It is important to note that Cutler is coming of a severe injury as he missed the last six games of last season after suffering a torn labrum in his throwing arm that required season ending surgery. However, for now, he is still leaning toward remaining retired. This means they will likely be giving him significant playing time against Atlanta so he can get as accustomed as possible to Miami's offense before the season starts. "So I don't think he looked at our situation like, 'oh this is going to happen'".

Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen said Thursday he has confidence in Moore, but Cutler should provide a healthy competition.

On Sunday, former Chicago Bears quarterback #Jay Cutler finally found a new team. The 34-year-old quarterback should be able to re-acclimate to Gase's system quickly, but will need to build chemistry with his new teammates in Miami.
