Mark Wahlberg is the World's Highest Paid Actor

Mark Wahlberg is the World's Highest Paid Actor

However, the issue arises when his earnings are compared to those in the highest-paid actresses' list, which Emma Stone topped with a total of $26m (£20m).

According to Forbes' 2017 list of the world's highest-paid actors, the Boston-bred star is now the biggest money maker in Hollywood.

Estimates by Forbes showed the men earned a collective $488.5 million while the leading women earned $172.5 million during same period.

The new opus of the saga Transformers "has got the miserable score of 15% on the aggregator website of critics in Rotten Tomatoes, and has been reported to be the worst recipe in the history of the franchise", explains Forbes. Nevertheless, the actor received a fixed compensation, so he was not affected by the film's performance. None other than '90s bad boy himself, Mark Wahlberg.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may have pulled in the most Hollywood bucks in 2016 with roles in "Baywatch" and the upcoming "Jumanji", but 2017 belongs to director Michael Bay's star of "Transformers: The Last Knight".

Stone's figures were significantly lower despite her Oscar win for La La Land which raked in $445.2m at the global box office as opposed to Wahlberg's Oscar-nominated Deep Water Horizon which took home $121.2m in worldwide collections.

It's worth pointing out that the lists are put together with all earnings considered, not just those made from actual acting jobs. Vin Diesel completed the podium with 54.5 million received through Fast and furious 8, The guardians of the galaxy 2 and the return of xXx. Sandler has been reeling in the big bucks thanks to his deal with Netflix that affords him the opportunity to produce his own movies.

A few days ago, it was discovered that Jennifer Lawrence was no longer the actress the best paid in the world. This pay gap is noticed across the board for the ten highest-paid actors and actresses. Rounding up the top five are Melissa McCarthy and Mila Kunis. Drop a comment below.
