UI Hospitals and Clinics ranked No

Ten specialties are in the top five.

The highest rankings attained by UW Hospital were in gynecology at 13 and urology at 16.

Brigham is nationally ranked in 11 adult specialties, including fourth best in the nation for cancer treatment.

The Best Hospital rankings are created to help consumers determine which hospitals provide the best care for the most serious or complicated medical conditions and procedures. It targets 25 specialties from cancer to urology.

"For almost three decades, we've strived to make hospital quality more transparent to health care consumers nationwide", said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. National Jewish has been the first or second-best hospital for pulmonology in the rankings every year for more than two decades.

A year ago, Mayo tied for the distinction of top hospital in Florida with UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. He credited the rankings to "the dedication of our faculty, network physicians and staff".

The current approach used in the U.S. News hospital rankings is created to make measures of hospital quality more transparent to the public. Mercy was rated nationally in Orthopedics for the second consecutive year, rising from #47th to #38th in the United States for 2017-18. "We're proud to be included on the Best Hospitals list".

"Frankly, I think any time you measure and look at yourself, it's important because you realize you can always get better", said Dr. Toby Cosgrove, Cleveland Clinic president and CEO.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville as the best hospital in Florida. UCHealth's patients are 26% more likely to survive their illness, and they are receiving safer care compared to the national average.

The rankings are produced for the magazine by RTI International, a research firm in Research Triangle Park.

The University of Kentucky's Albert B. Chandler Hospital is ranked No. 1 in Kentucky among regional hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual hospital rankings. Among the UI Stead Family Children's Hospital's six ranked specialties, four slipped and two made gains. Hospitals are assessed in 16 specialties for the rankings.

The UW School of Medicine has been ranked No. 1 in the nation in primary-care training for more than 20 years by U.S. News & World Report. VUMC was lauded for seven adult specialties and 10 children's specialty procedures. Orthopedics, which ranked 30th past year, is now listed as high performing. Those categories are pulmonology, heart bypass, heart failure, colon cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer.

Edging ahead at 251 points is Stanford Health Care in California continues to provide exceptional education and training for medical students. U.S. News is considered among the more relevant, along with www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare, ahrq.gov, healthgrades.com, drscore.com and leapfroggroup.org.

Last year, Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin held those spots, but this year placed at No. 2 in the Milwaukee area and No. 3 in Wisconsin.
