Nigeria turn on the class to thrash Cameroon 4-0

The Eagles were in scintillating form as they thrashed their West African rivals 4-0 in a crucial World Cup Qualifier clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Cameroon (yellow) were in charge of the early exchanges.

The goals were scored by Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Ighalo got Nigeria ahead 29 minutes into the game when he finished a cross from Mikel, after beating a Cameroonian defender to net a clean shot.

The win over the African champions took the Super Eagles points haul to a ideal nine from three matches, seven points ahead of the second-placed Cameroonians.

The former Chelsea midfielder, captaining Nigeria, scored the second three minutes before half-time with a tap-in from a corner taken by Moses that was allowed to run through by Ighalo's dummy.

The Eagles started the second half the same way the did the first; chasing the game and Zambo Anguisa forcing Ezenwa to save from his long range effort. The threats however, ceased when Victor Moses who was the chief tormentor teamed up with Simon Moses to make it three in the 55th minute and without a shadow of a doubt put the game beyond the Lions.

Cameroon, who have made an African record seven previous World Cup finals appearances and won the African Nations Cup in February, host Nigeria in a return qualifier in Yaounde on Monday.
