Sheriff David Clarke, Outspoken Support of Trump, Resigns As Milwaukee…

Sheriff David Clarke submitted a letter of resignation with the Milwaukee County clerk Thursday afternoon, saying he will step down from a position he has held since 2002.

Clarke has risen to national prominence in recent years, largely due to his appearances on conservative media programs and provocative social media posts.

But now Clarke has resigned his position as sheriff.

On Sunday, President Trump promoted Clarke's book, "Cop Under Fire: Moving Beyond Hashtags of Race, Crime and Politics for a Better America". The investigation stems from an incident at the Milwaukee airport, where Clarke ordered on-duty deputies to come shake down a fellow passenger who had stared him down and expressed distaste for the radical conservative sheriff.

In May, during a radio interview, he said he had been offered a job as an assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They care about their own radical ideology of terrorism: "anarchy".

Clarke did not immediately return an email seeking comment. And he reportedly said on a conservative podcast, "Let me tell you why blacks sell drugs and involve themselves in criminal behavior instead of a more socially acceptable lifestyle - because they're uneducated, they're lazy, and they're morally bankrupt". A mentally ill inmate allegedly died after being deprived of water as punishment, prosecutors said.

Clarke said what the Journal Sentinel's "hit job" missed is the fact that jail populations are filled with sick people who have made a lot of bad decisions that have compromised their health.

Clarke added that there's no pattern or connection in the deaths. Clarke however turned down the role at the time.
