Trump to view Irma damage Thursday: White House

President Donald Trump will visit hurricane-stricken Florida on Thursday, according to the White House.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders previously said that Trump would visit Florida today, but she declined to say where specifically the president would be going.

"I will be traveling to Florida tomorrow to meet with our great Coast Guard, FEMA and numerous courageous first responders & others", President Trump tweeted. Myers, just north of Naples, Trump spoke with reporters about discussions on DACA that he had with Democrats in Washington the night before.

In Lee County, which includes Cape Coral and Fort Myers, the Florida Emergency Management Agency said 66 percent of the area's 290,000 electrical customers were still without power Wednesday.

Irma, one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record, has so far killed at least 80 people as it swept through the Caribbean and south Florida.

The president says he will be meeting with members of the coast guard, FEMA, and first responders.

Seven deaths in Florida have been blamed on Irma.

Pence and Trump will then head to Naples where they will meet with first responders and Hurricane Irma victims.

President Donald Trump is making a political pitch for Republican Gov. Rick Scott while in Florida to survey hurricane damage from Irma.

Trump seems to be backpedaling on comments Wednesday, when he suggested rates could go higher for rich people.

"I think we're doing a good job in Florida", Mr. Trump said.

The president also used the opportunity to encourage Scott to run for the Senate.

President Donald Trump denied Thursday an assertion by Congress' top two Democrats that they reached an agreement with him that would preserve protections for young immigrants in the US illegally while providing border security enhancements, but not the Southern wall he has coveted. "What do I know but I hope this man right here. runs for the Senate", he said.
