Addressing a gathering in Porbandar during the launch of the second phase of the Gujarat Gaurav Yatra (march for honour), Shah also took a jibe at Gandhi's recent U.S. visit, terming it a "vacation".

On his Gujarat visit before the 2019 Assembly Elections in the state, Shah addressing a gathering in Porbandar said, "Rahul should wear Gujarati spectacles and not the ones made in Italy, then he will see the development in Gujarat". Today's yatra passed through Saurashtra and south Gujarat.

"Until 1995, electricity production in Gujarat under Congress rule was almost 36700 MW", Shah said, giving out a series of statistics to highlight the accomplishments of the successive BJP governments in the state. Rahul Gandhi had also visited temples in Gujarat to garner Hindu votes, even though he talks about secularism.

Desai was a deputy prime minister under Indira Gandhi before falling out with her.

Shah kicked off the march from India's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's hometown Karamsad in central Gujarat on Sunday to highlight the achievements of the BJP-led governments in the state during the two decades its rule.

Rahul Gandhi while hitting out at the Modi government said that is has been able to provide employment to only 400 new youth as compared to 40,000 in China.

"Rahul always questions what Prime Minister Narendra Modi did in past three years, but I want to ask what UPA did in 10 years", Shah asked.

The second part of the Yatra, the BJP's road show ahead of the Assembly elections in December, will be started from Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace, Porbandar, on his birth anniversary on Monday.

He added that the party is taking pride of making Gujarat a curfew-free state and providing 24 hours electricity in the state. Shah, who has been camped in Gujarat since September 26, arrived in Gandhinagar this evening after flagging off the party's "Gujarat Gaurav Yatra" at Karamsad in Anand district earlier today.

The BJP president will conduct the yatra till October 15 during which he will address 138 "jan sabhas" across the state. It will be held on two routes simultaneously.
