India smash Pakistan 4-0 to reach final of Asia Cup Hockey

India will host the 14th Men's Hockey World Cup in November-December next year in Bhubaneswar where three top teams of the ongoing Asia Cup will play.

MALAYSIA gave their best, but still it was not enough to deny India the Asia Cup hockey gold medal in Dhaka, Bangladesh, tonight.

After two games each in Super four stage, India are on top with four points followed by Malaysia (three points), Korea (two points) and Pakistan (one point).

All in all, a very satisfying victory for India who can focus their energies on the finals of the Asia Cup as they aim to add another major trophy to the cabinet.

Malaysia trailed India 0-2 in the first half. The Indian team got ample opportunities in the third quarter but could not take full toll of that.

India on the other hand, had opportunities of their own in the latter part of the third quarter but could not produce a third goal to seal the deal.

Shahril Saabah ignited the fight-back with a field goal in the 50th minute, and India protested, but lost their video referral as well.

Malaysia kept up the pressure on the Indian defence in the final 10 minutes of the match, but India absorbed the attacking forays made. The one-side contest ended as India reached the final.

However, the match became much more interesting in the final quarter as Malaysia scored a goal with ten minutes left for the hooter. "Playing the games in this way, and in this order, helps us protect the sporting principles of the Asian Cup final qualifying round", said Windsor John.
