Red-hot Liverpool hit seven to ignite Champions League campaign

Meanwhile, this is Liverpool's 10th Champions League campaign, and only their second appearance in the group stages in the last eight seasons. Denis Sme will miss Tuesday's match for Maribor, who now sit in last place on the league table.

The Reds enter Tuesday's clash second in Group E but with just two points from two matches, while they most recently played out a goalless draw at home against Manchester United on Saturday.

"It looks like Maribor didn't play well, but it was very hard to play against us today".

Darko Milanic does not have a lot of injury concerns to deal with ahead of the visit of Liverpool, but the Maribor boss will be without centre-backs Marko Suler, Denis Sme and young striker Luka Zahovic for Tuesday's home encounter.

Liverpool will be aiming to win their first Champions League games in eight attempts, having gone winless in their previous seven attempts (D4 L3).

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain went on to notch his first for the club after 86 minutes, before a 90th minute strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold extended Liverpool's new record even further.

After scoring Liverpool's sixth against Maribor and his first since signing from Arsenal, second-half substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain told The Guardian that there was a positive mentality at the club despite a hard start to the season that has left them eighth in the Premier League table. In fact, the Slovenian side has won just one of their 14 group stage games in the premier European club competition (D5 L8).

Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah also got in on the act before half-time, with the latter bagging a brace to help Jurgen Klopp's side to their own piece of history when it comes to English teams on the continent. "Maribor is the place they [Liverpool] should rotate".

However, a combination of defensive mistakes and missed opportunities in front of goal continues to cost them time and again and that can be solved if the right players come into the side.
