Katy Perry 'rejected for Chinese visa' ahead of Victoria's Secret show

Katy Perry 'rejected for Chinese visa' ahead of Victoria's Secret show

The annual Victoria's Secret fashion show will go on later this month, but it will be without Gigi Hadid.

The show, which will air on CBS on November 28, has also seen an exodus of fashion bloggers because the Chinese government has refused to give them visas, while television producers are struggling to get permission to shoot outside the Mercedes-Benz Arena venue, the New York Post Page Six reported.

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is usually associated with fireworks, glitter, and general extravagance - but this year all of that has gone up in smoke.

Hadid did not mention the controversy this week when she tweeted about missing the show. According to sources, Chinese officials reversed a decision to grant Katy a visa after being made aware of a sunflower dress the singer wore during a 2015 concert in Taipei.

Katy Perry has been banned indefinitely from China, just days before she was scheduled to perform at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai, Page Six reports.

"She was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa", a source said. That's because sunflowers became the symbol of a 2014 anti-China political movement involving Taiwanese students who protested a trade agreement with China that they saw as unfair to Taiwan. "Can't wait to tune in with everyone to see the lovely show I know it will be, and already can't wait for next year! x", tweeted the 22-year-old. Last year, Lady Gaga was banned from visiting China because she met with the Dalai Lama, and other celebs like Harrison Ford, Richard Gere and Maroon 5 have also been denied access. "Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!" It's been reported that four models and several bloggers were denied Visas to enter China, and Adriana Lima's visa is in purgatory.

Gigi Hadid also suddenly dropped out of walking in the show, after confirming her booking in August.

Gigi came under fire in September after a video of her appearing to mock a Buddha surfaced online. Per In Style, she posted a picture of the two of them with the caption, "2 yrs w my favorite human".

This would have marked her second time at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, after performing in 2010.
