Many groups have been opposing the film fearing the movie would depict a romantic relationship between Rani Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and Allaudin Khilji (Ranveer Singh).

Director of "Game of Ayodhya" feels that its not only about release date clash but the plot of the film as well.

The film has been mired in controversy over conjectures that it "distorts history" regarding Rajput queen Padmini, a charge that Bhansali has repeatedly denied.

The drama surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming period drama Padmavati, has taken a chilling turn as threats of beheading the film's stars have now surfaced.

Sources said that the state unit of BJP had issued a show cause notice to it's chief media coordinator Suraj Pal Amu, as he had recently in a program he had announced to give Rs 10 crore to the person who brings him the heads of Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Distortion of history will not be tolerated. Also, Akhil Bhartiya Kshatriya Mahasabha after burning over a hundred effigies of Padukone, announced a bounty of Rs 1 crore for burning her alive.

The film is based on Padmavat, a poem written in the 15th century by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said that film Padmavati would not be allowed to release in the state unless the objectionable scenes were removed.

On Saturday, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje also weighed in, asking Union minister Smriti Irani to ensure the movie was released only after necessary changes were made, keeping in mind that no community's sentiments are offended.The movie has not yet been approved by the censor board.
