2 students shot near Washington high school, police say

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham-Kapowsin High School in Graham.

Pierce County Sheriff's Department spokesman Ed Troyer said it was not believed the suspects were from the area.

KOMO reports that a getaway auto has also been located in connection with Tuesday's shooting at Graham-Kapowsin High School.

"We think there was some type of altercation between two groups and we'll be sorting that out over the next few days", Troyer said. The other student was found inside a locker room. Officials say the victims ran back onto the campus after being shot.

Both students were taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

Graham-Kapowsin, Frontier Middle School and Nelson and Graham elementary schools were all put on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon, and parents in the district were sent an email notification about the incident. Officers are still investigating.

Suspects in the shooting were "described as multiple black males" who left the scene in a green vehicle, possible a Chevy Impala, according to the force.

The high school is located at 22100 108th Ave Graham.

Troyer also clarified that it appears the shooting happened across the street from the school, about 30 to 40 yards away and over a fence.

"I knew he wasn't one of the kids that was shot, and I pray for them and their parents".

After deeming the campus secure, the sheriff's department and Bethel School District allowed students to be released. This is a scary situation and we are proud of how our staff, students and families have been and are still reacting to it.

A spokesperson for Bethel school district said schools in the area were on lockdown.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Office appealed for the public's help in identifying the two wanted suspects and tweeted that Crime Stoppers was offering a reward for information.
