Carmelo Anthony ready for 'emotional' return vs. Knicks

Carmelo Anthony ready for 'emotional' return vs. Knicks

"Walking in there, it will be a little emotional, " Anthony said. "Being back there and running out of the other side of the tunnel, seeing people who I became close to, seeing my family who I can't see much now because I'm in Oklahoma City, seeing my wife".

"I think he was as professional as he can be in his time here in New York", Porzingis, who left Thursday's game against the Nets with a knee injury, told ESPN's Ian Begley. "Emotional as far as excited being back on that court".

Carmelo Anthony likely will get booed, and booed a lot, in his return to Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. The match is being billed as Carmelo Anthony's first appearance in NY since being traded to Oklahoma City ahead of the 2017-18 National Basketball Association season.

"Hey, I'm only 33, " Anthony said.

In September, Anthony waived his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade to Oklahoma City.

Earlier in the week, after Thunder teammate Paul George returned to in for the first time, Anthony couldn't say what kind of reaction he would get or how he would feel Saturday night. Anthony played seven seasons with the Knicks and was an All-Star in all but his final year, and was often regarded by Porzingis as a great teammate and mentor.

Jackson and Anthony clashed over playing style and offensive system, with Jackson looking to install the triangle, something that didn't mesh well with Anthony. Two seasons after that trade, Anthony led the Knicks to a first round series win over Boston Celtics, the Knicks' first and only playoff win since 2000.

"For the most part what I like about it, guys are trying to figure it out", he said earlier this week.

"We talk, text, call".

Good. We don't need another star down with a major injury this season.

"I think it will be an appreciation", Anthony added. And if things don't work out with OKC, Anthony could always opt out of his contract in July and try to hook up with LeBron James...(although he'd be insane to turn down a guaranteed $28 million).

The Knicks seem to be in a better position without Anthony. I embraced New York City.

"He's Embiid, helluva talent, I just love his competitive spirit, " Anthony said. Those are my roots, the people there, I became one of them. I hope NY can do it.

For the Thunder, it'll cap a three-game road trip that started with returning to IN and then saw a triple-overtime win IN Philadelphia on Friday, when Anthony played his best game of the season.

"It's always a show. And he's coming back home". "Of course I want to win".

Unlike team management, Porzingis didn't want his friend to leave. "If he didn't want to win, he would have probably stayed here or went somewhere else besides OKC because he has an actual chance to win".

Following a 111-104 win in Brooklyn, the Knicks are 15-13 and tied for the No.6 seed in the Eastern Conference.

"Look, we all got to move on, man". "Late in the game we said, 'That's their run.' It was a battle".

"I felt my knee buckle a little bit, and I felt a little pain there". They found their team for right now.

All three players are used to having the ball in their hands, and they've been adjusting to that - not as quickly as many expected.
