Giants' Collins sorry for alluding to Apple as 'a cancer'

The New York Giants announced on Wednesday that cornerback Eli Apple would be suspended for the final game of the season for "a pattern of behavior that is conduct detrimental to the team".

After starting 11 games as a rookie at cornerback, Apple was inactive for four consecutive games from November 19 through December 10. It has been a hard second season in the National Football League for Apple, who was the Giants first-round pick a year ago. Apple did not play any defensive snaps in that game. Besides, the other two guys, (Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie) and (Janoris Jenkins), I love those two guys.

"(Landon and I) had a quick conversation this morning and then I had a quick conversation with Eli", Spagnuolo said.

Collins' comments follow a recent interview in which Apple denied Collins' statement that he had several conversations about the young cornerback's struggles.

Head coach Ben McAdoo was sacked earlier in the month.

While his on-field play has left much to be desired on its own, it's Apple's impact in the locker room that already has Giants fans wondering what in the world their team was thinking when they spent a top-10 pick on the former Ohio State Buckeye.

Not only is Apple's season over, it's quite possible his Giants career is now over.

The TD tweet infuriated Giants' fans, but was only part of Apple's problems this season. "That first pick.he's a cancer".

Apple said the next day that he had not spoken to Collins about anything. NJ.com detailed off-the-field issues with his family that could be affecting Apple, including his mother and step-father's divorce.

But this wasn't the first time Collins has publicly criticized Apple. He's dealt with a hip injury and had a reported blow-up at coaches during a critical film session.

"Look, we're all grown men in there", Collins said.
