NORAD Santa Tracker: Where's the big guy at?

NORAD Santa Tracker: Where's the big guy at?

"NORAD has supported Santa Claus' Christmas Eve operations for 62 years and we are always delighted to help", said Col. Emil Filkorn, EADS commander.

The Colorado-based North American Aerospace Defense Command is ready to track Santa's yuletide journey for the 62nd time.

Be sure to keep checking back throughout the day and evening to track Santa's progress.

Official NORAD Tracks Santa apps are available in the Apple and Google Play stores, so parents and children can countdown the days until Santa's launch on their smart phones and tablets.

The NORAD tradition began in 1955 when a local media advertisement directed children to call Santa direct and the number was misprinted.

The Eastern Air Defense Sector is a North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) headquarters unit located at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome, New York.

Last year, volunteers received a record 140,000 calls to the Santa hotline. The website saw 56 million views, and staff also received 28,000 emails. Bing and Cortana users can also find Santa's location.

NORAD works with a variety of partners to support the tracker, including Microsoft and telephone-system company Avaya. These experts use Santa certified radar, satellites, jets, and cams positioned in strategic locations around the world to inform callers of Santa's whereabouts.
