Romney and Trump spoke following trip to Utah, Conway says

Kellyanne Conway said Wednesday that President Trump and Mitt Romney have a good relationship, but she declined to say whether the president would support the former MA governor and GOP presidential nominee in a possible Senate run in Utah. "They discussed among other things, what President Trump did the day before in Utah, with the national monuments and talking about historic tax cuts and the like", Mrs. Conway, counselor to the president, said on CNN. Orrin Hatch's Senate seat should Hatch retire, and several "Draft Romney" groups have formed across Utah trying to nudge the former Republican presidential nominee into the race.

Highly conservative Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert (R) fired back at Steve Bannon with a lingual assault Wednesday, after Bannon, Executive Chairman of Breitbart News, made religious comments aimed at Mitt Romney - a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS/Mormonism).

Trump, who appeared with Hatch in Utah on Monday, told reporters he is urging the 83-year-old senator to seek an eighth six-year term in next year's congressional midterm elections, Politico reported.

Bannon's controversial comments came Tuesday night at a rally for controversial Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who has been accused by multiple women for being a child molester.

Conway said she wasn't sure the President was aware that Bannon planned to zero-in on Romney during his speech, adding that Trump had been entertaining guests for three hours at a ball. Romney received a draft deferment for his missionary work in France.

"And by the way, Mitt, while we're on the subject of Vietnam and honor and integrity, you avoided service, brother", Bannon said at the event.

Unlike Hatch, who's become just another reliable Republican vote, Romney's evident distaste for the current administration is something in sorely short supply among Republicans in Congress... "Do not talk about honor and integrity".

Bannon also touched on Romney's presidential bid and family in his criticism. "We have 7,000 dead and 52,000 casualties, and where were the Romneys during those wars?"

"The days of taking it silently are over", Bannon declared at a rally that drew hundreds of Moore supporters to a local farm in the southwestern corner of the state. He then helped elect a president who avoided Vietnam service thanks to deferments for education and "temporary" bone spurs.

For the record, many Mormons have served in the military with distinction, including in Vietnam and Afghanistan.

The president replied "yes" when asked Monday if he was encouraging the Utah Republican to run for re-election during a visit to a Salt Lake City food bank. Romney should primary Hatch if only to force that choice upon Trump and Bannon.

Utah's other senator, Republican Mike Lee, also hammered Bannon's rebuke of Romney.
