State reports small increase in Colorado's unemployment rate

Meanwhile, statewide unemployment also fell in November, to 4.6 percent from 4.9 percent a month earlier. That rate is down 0.5% from a year ago at this time.

Fairfield County had the highest unemployment rate in November at 9.1 percent.

There were an estimated 27 fewer workers under the category of Local Government compared to October, and an additional 42 employees in the Manufacturing category.

The jobless rate remains lower than the national unemployment rate of 4.1 percent.

But the private sector shed 4,200 jobs in November, primarily in the trade, transportation, and utilities sector, as well as leisure and hospitality jobs.

The department said Friday the unemployment rate rose from 3.6 percent in October to 3.7 percent in November.

State officials say the small increase in unemployment is due to more people who are actively looking for work in Colorado.
