Two arrested in murder of lesbian couple, children in NY

Police say the women were in a relationship.

But Chief John Tedesco said Wednesday that the victims include a 36-year-old woman and her 22-year-old girlfriend, along with the 36-year-old woman's 5-year-old daughter and 11-year-old boy.

The building's manager found the deceased in their basement apartment at 158 Second Ave., Troy before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The four were killed on December 21, and one of the defendants was acquainted with one of the victims, Troy Police Chief John Tedesco said at a news conference Saturday.

"Only a person of savagery would do something like this", he said.

Troy is about 10 miles from the state capital, Albany, and about 160 miles north of New York City.

White, 38, and Justin C. Mann, 24, were each charged with one count of first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder, Troy Police Department Capt. Daniel DeWolf told CNN. Autopsies were performed Wednesday, Tedesco said.

Police have released few details about the killings, including the manner of death. "I don't know of a word that can say it", Tedesco said on Tuesday.

"If you know something that could help us put the monster away who did this to my sister and her attractive babies, you've got to say something".

The Chen family was also killed in what authorities believed to have been a targeted incident, but investigators have not been able to publicly identify a motive or suspect in the case.

Police have not yet identified suspects in the case.

As investigators scour for clues in the killing of a mother, her two young children and her domestic partner in their upstate NY home, aspects of the quadruple homicide appear similar to another, unsolved mass family killing that occurred less than 15 miles away in 2014.

The childrens' uncle, Khalif Coleman, said 5-year-old Shanise was unusually mature for her age.

The 11-year-old victim played basketball in a community league, according to the Troy Record. He says Shanta Myers had worked as a bus monitor and her children were active in youth programs.
