Ex-Motorstorm, DriveClub leads found Wushu Studios to make indie sci-fi game

Some potentially exciting news for you here: former DriveClub and Motorstorm leads are heading up a brand new Liverpool-based development team - and they're working on an all-new sci-fi property. In its press release, the studio explained that it wanted to get away from the "triple-A grind" and to focus more on games with "interesting mechanics, unique concepts, and to deliver fun, refreshing gameplay experiences to players".

Comprised now of eleven members, Wushu's aim was to move away from, as they call it, the AAA grind to create games with interesting mechanics, unique concepts as well as fun, refreshing gameplay experiences.

If you loved Motorstorm and Driveclub, then the formation of a new studio in the United Kingdom may be of interest to you - though intriguingly, the new firm says its first offering won't be a driving game. Together, the new studio's working on what it described as a "tantalizing and unexpected take" on a sci-fi game.

'Our core team at Wushu have worked together closely on numerous projects over the years so there was no downtime in figuring out how to work together, we just fell straight into a groove kicking around game ideas that appealed to us as players and developers, ' commented McDermott. This approach has helped us figure out which of our concepts would allow us to flex our creative muscle most.

Nigel Kershaw is design director and has worked in the industry for 30 years, having most notably worked as game director on MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Alex Figini, a former senior BioWare concept artist, has also collaborated with the studio on the project.

And if you're not normally someone who keeps up with known industry names, you might still recognize their Head of Marketing and PR, known best as shinobi602 on Twitter and also one of the movers and shakers of the biggest gaming discussion forum out there, Resetera.

We don't know whether this will be a multi-platform title or a console exclusive game.
