PM Modi to apprise WEF at Davos about India's economic reforms

Speaking at the "Yuva Udghosh" programme, he said, "India's prestige has increased in the last three years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi". The PM also talked about India's policies and growth potential and expressed that he felt proud to represent India in Davos. "The Prime Minister will articulate his vision of how he sees the Indian economy contributing not only for the benefit of the people of India but also on a global scale", he said.

"The country is seeing the biggest jump in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)".

Speaking about various government schemes, the Prime Minister said that in the last one year, more than 70 lakh people have joined the EPFO and over 10 crore people have benefited from the Mudra scheme, under which almost Rs 4 lakh crore has been disbursed.

The prime minister criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance for not addressing the matters of concern to the states.

Two Indian "Acharyas" and Yoga experts will be traveling to Davos in Switzerland to provide Yoga classes during the five-day annual meet of the World Economic Forum (WEF) beginning January 23.

Though it has yet to be confirmed, Indian Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit Oman, prior to his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the second week of February.

To another query, he said history of casteism in politics was the country's "misfortune" but his and his government's mantra was development for everybody. "I am not talking in thin air, EPF figures are not wrong", the prime minister said. "The world is acknowledging that India is doing well domestically", he said, adding that the government is taking bold policy steps on social, economic and good governance fronts. "The world knows the importance of this", he said.

On the criticism of his government on implementation of the GST, he said, "the success of the GST lies in the power of the federal structure".

DIPP is also hosting a welcome reception for the WEF members on January 22 where 1,500 people are expected to come.
