Smoke billows out of Trump Tower as firemen respond to electrical fire

A fire that broke out on the roof of Trump Tower in NY has been contained, firefighters have said.

Some 84 firefighters and medical crews responded as 26 emergency units with lights flashing converged on the crowded midtown Manhattan location, it added.

People took social media to post images and video of the blaze, showing smoke rising from the skyscraper.

The blaze started at around 7am (noon GMT), causing smoke to billow from the roof at the Manhattan building which contains President Donald Trump's home and business offices.

One firefighter and a civilian were injured, Associated Press reports.

Trump was in Washington, where he has lived since he was elected president.

The president was not in the building when the fire erupted.

The building served as Donald Trump's primary residence and workplace before he took up residence in the White House previous year.

There are no injuries or evacuations reported at this time.

The Fire Department of NY said it was called there at around 7am (noon GMT) after the blaze was reported on the top floor.
