Trump also said he looks forward to visiting Britain - where he has been invited sometime for a state visit to be hosted by the Queen - and apologizes for retweeting videos by a far-right group in Britain, which exacerbated tensions with May and drew complaints in the United Kingdom parliament.

After being prompted by Morgan, Trump suggested he was willing to apologise for sharing tweets from Britain First deputy leader Jayda Fransen.

"If you're telling me they're awful racist people, I would certainly apologize if you would like me to do that", Trump told Morgan.

Asked how he feels about the fact that many women view him as "the worst kind of sexist, misogynist pig", Trump reportedly said, "Well, I am for them, and I think a lot of them understand that".

Mr Trump said he did not mean to cause any difficulty for Britain, a country he said he loved very much. Prime Minister Theresa May herself said retweeting the videos was "the wrong thing to do".

Morgan has been outspoken about his friendship with Trump, who he got to know in 2008 when he won "Celebrity Apprentice" in the U.S.

President Trump attends a dinner with business leaders and heads of state during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. No, it wouldn't, but I have a lot of respect for your Prime Minster and I think you're doing a job.

Trump told Morgan that he is "often the least racist person that anybody is going to meet".

Trump claimed he didn't know about Britain First, according to Morgan, who teased the full interview with his longtime friend on Twitter ahead of the broadcast on Sunday.

While discussing PM May's handling of the Brexit talks, he said: "Would it be the way I negotiate?"

As for calls to ban him from visiting the country, he added: "Well, that's their problem - I could very nicely stay home". He subsequently pulled out of an expected visit to Britain to open the new US Embassy building in London, leading to speculation of a diplomatic rift.

Britain has long touted its "special relationship" with the United States, and is also desperate for a trade deal as it leaves the European Union.

He also met Trump in 2008 when he won a USA celebrity version of "The Apprentice, " a business-themed reality show that Trump hosted.

Morgan also asked Trump, the father of daughters Ivanka, 36, and Tiffany, 24, "Do you identify as a feminist?".
