Gas Prices Down Slightly in Northern New England

According to GasBuddy, Manatee County motorists were paying the highest prices on Monday - $2.64 per gallon - for the third consecutive week when compared to surrounding areas.

The most expensive gas price averages in Georgia were in Hinesville-Fort Stewart at $2.47 per gallon, Savannah at $2.45 and Brunswick at $2.44. "AAA expects gas prices will shoot up 20 to 30 cents between March and May as refineries conduct seasonal maintenance and switch to summer-blend gasoline".

AAA gas price projections are based on predictable market dynamics barring any unforeseen changes in oil markets, financial markets and/or the political landscape. Motorists in almost every state are paying less on the week with Midwest and Southern states seeing the largest price drops at the pump.

Nebraska's average price a month ago was $2.54, and a year ago it was $2.33. "Refinery maintenance season is fast approaching". Last week's figures showed only minor gains in production and inventory levels.

Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said today the declining trend in gas prices "may not be over just yet" after oil prices dropped in recent weeks.

At the close of NYMEX trading Friday, West Texas Intermediate crude oil settled at $61.68 per barrel, up $2.48 from the previous week.

Experts say the decrease is due to an increase in both oil and gasoline production. In fact, last week's EIA petroleum report revealed that USA oil production grew 332,000 b/d, putting total crude output at 10.271 million b/d.

Gas prices throughout Florida have dropped for 10 straight days, for a total of 11 cents, following several weeks of increases that are unusual for this time of year. AAA advocates for the safety and mobility of its members and has been committed to outstanding road service for more than 100 years.
