Jose Mourinho still searching for first win at St James' Park

Mourinho, in fact, claims that the 24-year-old is still far from the finished article and has much of his potential still to fill.

"I was laughing over the past week because I heard and watched, read a few things, and I'm not English but I think I understand English enough when you want to say box-to-box".

Mourinho said: "With some comments from important people in football, I got a bit confused".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has leapt to the defence of Paul Pogba following recent criticism. If our players continue the good work at Tyneside, I don't see why we can not return home with all three points.

Veteran striker Ibrahimovic, who signed a new one-year contract last summer after initially being released, has been limited to just seven appearances across all competitions since returning from a seven-month absence in a 4-1 win over the Magpies in November, with another right-knee problem keeping him sidelined since the Boxing Day draw with Burnley. For me box to box means (gestures) box to box.

"To play free of defensive duties, that's not "box to box".

"That is not box to box - that is a box in the box and stay in that box!"

The United boss also elaborated on what he felt Pogba should be as a midfielder, and how he thinks the "box to box" description of a player should be interpreted.

Mourinho said: "I don't know why, I think it's the only stadium in the Premier League where I have not won - also Huddersfield but I only played there once".

Mourinho has a dismal record at Newcastle, failing to win a single game in six trips.

"They have a good team and I think they had a good transfer window, with Kenedy and (Islam) Slimani, two players I know very well, who can really improve the team". I like to go there and like the feeling of going to Mr (Bobby) Robson's home.

"It's a real honour for me that the supporters have voted for me", he added.

"I lost and I drew a few times, I hope the result is different but I know the characteristics of the game will not be hard", Mourinho said.

"(Rafa) Benitez knows how to get points so I think it is going to be hard".
