Leicester boss Claude Puel questions Manchester City's pursuit of Riyad Mahrez

Foxes boss Claude Puel came out yesterday, indirectly accusing the Blues of disrespect in trying to prise away Leicester's star player.

However, Sky Sports report that City "began negotiations" over a week before the deadline, and Leicester "were open to discussing a potential fee" for Mahrez.

The Algeria worldwide had hoped to move to City on transfer deadline day but the move fell through as Leicester valued Mahrez at £95 million but City were only willing to pay £65m.

"They welcomed him with a good feeling, now it's important to move on".

Puel said: "We need perhaps some others' respect".

"We don't have a lot of players with the same quality like Riyad".

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has confirmed Wales worldwide David Brooks is in contention to make his long-awaited return to first-team action.

"We succeeded in keeping good unity within the team".

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has criticised Manchester City for the way they unsettled Foxes winger Riyad Mahrez at the end of the transfer window. "It was important for me and for the player, to stop the last situation".

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has not featured since early December but scored one goal and set up another in a 45-minute cameo appearance for the Championship club's under-23 team at Hull on Monday.

Midfielders Ryan Leonard, Ricky Holmes and Lee Evans are all cup-tied but the likes of John Lundstram, Daniel Lafferty and Clayton Donaldson could start.
