US Agencies Probing Apple Inc. Over iPhone Throttling

The United States DOJ and SEC are reportedly investigating an Apple software update with a power management feature that can slow down older iPhones.

The inquiry is in early stages, and it's too soon to conclude if any enforcement will follow, the report said.

"We have received questions from some government agencies and we are responding to them", an Apple spokeswoman told Reuters.

Users first discovered that Apple was doing something to deliberately slow down older phones when their clunky iPhone started performing better, or like new, when they put in a new battery.

Representatives for the Justice Department and SEC declined to comment. The statement does not clarify which agencies the company has been in contact with.

The iPhone X may be Apple's most satisfying smartphone yet, according to a new 451 Research report.

Microsoft launched Windows 10 - in July 2015 - to run almost seamlessly between PC systems, tablets and phones from the start, while Google brought its Google Play Store and Android apps to Chromebooks early past year. According to it, the software update has new features that will help users to monitor the condition of their batteries and safeguard against potential slow performance. The company faced a wave of backlash after word spread of the update.

Numerous people suing Apple say that they would not have bought newer iPhones if they knew that they could fix the issues with their older models by simply replacing the battery.

Apple posted a public apology over its handling of the issue and lowered the price of iPhone battery replacements. Due to poor sales and the very high-end price of the iPhone X, Apple will be made to go back to the drawing board, learn from their mistakes, and not release three very similar iPhones at the same.

The company confirmed it had been contacted by officials from the U.S. government and said it was cooperating fully by answering the questions supplied. Apple's domestic record quoted a shorter wait for "approximately two weeks" to get iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus batteries. Apple's response to that letter is expected this week, said the Commerce Committee's spokesperson, Frederick Hill. This toggle will allow users to switch off a "power management" feature which cuts phone performance.

In addition, a new feature in the iOS Health app is created to organize user data from various medical facilities in one view.
