Windows 10 S Build 17093 Helps Users Ditch Passwords

It's bringing Progressive Web Apps (not to be confused with Universal Windows Platform apps, many of which are glorified websites) to Windows 10 with a new version of Edge that supports the necessary web technologies. But thankfully, Microsoft appears to have a new solution to this old problem: Kill the passwords! With Windows 10 S you don't have to! We'll also get to know more about the next update for Windows 10, codenamed Redstone 5, at the event.

Find the Advanced graphics settings in the Settings System Display section and then you will see the dialogue box above. Microsoft is expanding the list of hardware capable of being calibrated for HDR. Microsoft says that "applications are always allowed to have the ultimate choice of which GPU to use", and thus you might still be able to / want to adjust preferences within some specific applications.

Effectively, all the various alternatives to passwords that Microsoft has shoved under the Windows Hello banner will be absorbed into Windows S, which was recently turned from a fully fledged (and not widely used) operating system in its own right to a Windows 10 mode.

Graphics improvements: More PCs can support HDR video thanks to a new experimental calibration tool, available in Settings Apps Video playback. In summary, there are new data privacy tools, a new way to go password-less with Windows 10 S, Windows security improvements, eye control improvements, multi-lingual support tweaks and Bluetooth streamlining. Today's Preview build brings one of the longest changelogs, with a number of features receiving fixes and improvements. The new panel will allow users to override the OS' choice of GPU for an app and directly specify whether to use the most efficient adapter or the one with the highest performance. You can also now print web pages without ads and unnecessary clutter from the web.

Windows Subsystem for Linux improvements: WSL updates in this build include the ability to automatically configure certain functionality with wsl.conf, better file handling via folder level case sensitivity and more.
