Encounter between militants, security forces in Bandipora

The encounter ensued when security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Hajin's Shakoor Din Mohalla in the morning after receiving information about presence of militants there, Jammu and Kashmir police said in a statement.

In the wee hours of Thursday, a Lashkar militant was killed in an gun fight in Hajin area of the Bandipora disttrict, police said.

It was around 5 am when the militants hiding in the area started firing at the security forces.

One security guard was killed after militants attacked a security guard post near Charar-e-Sharief shrine in Budgam district on Sunday evening.

The body of the militant was recovered along with an AK 47 from the encounter site, reports said.

On the basis of the arms recovered, prima facie it looks the dead militant belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

According to Greater Kashmir, massive clashes erupted after the encounter.

Two more militants are believed to be holed up, sources state.

A year ago security forces gunned down six LeT militants, including nephew of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi in the same area.
