Iran lauds Russian veto of UN Yemen resolution as

Meanwhile, Iran's envoy to the United Nations says that the U.S. and the UK are trying to distract the global community away from Saudi Arabia's war crimes in Yemen by drafting such resolutions.

On Monday, Russia blocked in the UN Security Council a Britain-drafted resolution, which slammed Iran's "non-compliance" with the UN sanctions regime that embargoes arms to the Shiite Houthi militants in Yemen.

The draft resolution before the UN Security Council called for holding Iran accountable for violating the arms embargo and included a council commitment to take action over it.

Saudi Arabia and its Sunni Muslim allies say the Houthis are aligned with Shi'ite Iran and pose a threat to the region.

26 slammed Russia's veto of a United Nations draft resolution that would have condemned Iran for violating an embargo on arms shipments to Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The statement by Western powers condemning Iran on February 27 shows the United States has galvanized the support of major European allies, all of whom signed Iran's 2015 nuclear deal along with Russian Federation and China, for taking action to deter Iran's ballistic-missile activities.

They particularly noted the United Nations finding that the Houthis' ballistic missile attacks on Saudi Arabia "has the potential to turn a local conflict into a broader regional one".

More than 100 Houthi rebels were killed in Yemen on Thursday in strikes by the Arab coalition fighting on behalf of the internationally recognised government.

Elsewhere in western Yemen, fighter jets of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition launched airstrikes against Houthis, but mistakenly targeted a farm and killed four girls in the port city of Hodeidah.

He made remarks on what was mentioned in a report on sanctions in Yemen, stressing that the coalition adheres to all standards and human rights laws.

Unless more is done by USA allies to deter Iran, Trump has said he will stop waiving US sanctions against Iran as required under the nuclear deal in exchange for curbs on Iran's nuclear activities.
