New York Jets: Make some solid free agent moves

Former Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater scrambles with the ball during the first quarter against the Atlanta Falcons on September 28, 2014 at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Later on Tuesday, the Jets agreed a deal with former Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Bridgewater, according to ESPN.

Bridgewater suffered a devastating knee injury during training camp in 2016.

Prior to the injury, Bridgewater had the full support of Minnesota's coaching staff as a popular breakout candidate.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported McCown will make $10 million on a one-year deal.

If you pegged the New York Jets as having the best offseason of any National Football League team, you probably work in the Jets front office.

"Bridgewater enters a situation in which a productive offseason and training camp can result in a starting gig, while NY has the added protection of McCown in case the Bridgewater marriage doesn't work out", he continued.

That was the case past year, when he beat Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty in a three-way quarterback competition. Put Bridgewater, McCown and a rookie quarterback (with one notable exception) in the same room, then there is a significant upgrade. Cousins has three seasons of 4,000 passing yards whereas Keenum's 3,547 in 2017 represented his career high. The Jets now only have slot corner Buster Skrine as a starter under contract.

Bridgewater, 25, has attempted just two passes since tearing his ACL in 2016. Bridgewater believes he is ready to be a starter, however, he has not seen any real game action since the 2015 season. Schefter says the Cardinals will offer Bradford to a one-year deal worth $20 million, including $15 million guaranteed, and an option year at $20 million. We have talked about the two names involved, Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater.

The last signing for the Jets on Thursday came late in the evening as they added some more depth on defensive, this time at the linebacker position.
