The Fantastic Four are returning to Marvel Comics

Writer Dan Slott (The Amazing Spider-Man) will pen the series, which will feature art by Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Spider-Man).

Marvel has pulled the veil off the big secret it teased yesterday, revealing that the Fantastic Four are returning to Marvel Comics this summer. Ben Grimm and Johnny Storm floated around the Marvel Universe, joining the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Inhumans, respectively, before teaming up together recently in Marvel 2-in-1.

Though Fantastic Four was the comic that catalyzed Marvel's superhero comics revolution, it hasn't been published since April of 2015, with Fantastic Four #645 being the final issue before the series' cancellation.

"It's the right time, and we wanted the right team to do it, and we wanted the right story to get across", Cebulski said when talking about the relaunched title. He felt that the FF were "sort of taken for granted" and that it didn't "resonate" with the public in the same way that X-Men or Avengers do now.

Cebulski stated in the video that "it's the right time" because they have "the right team" and "the right story".

BUT, then you announce a creative team with Dan Slott and Sara Pichelli, and I am all in!

Drawing comic book characters is a form of acting, and that's why Cebulski thinks Pichelli is the right artist for the job.

"I can't wait to draw a lot of the characters, but there's one in particular I can't reveal yet", Pichelli told the New York Times. "You will know why they're my favorite when you read the book!" "He has that uncanny ability to have this encyclopedic memory of everything that's ever happened in a Marvel Comics, including Fantastic Four, and respect the past in the stories but also drive the stories forward with new ideas and new ways of thinking we haven't seen before". Previous attempts to give this team their very own franchise have, ehhh, not gone outstandingly well, but under the guidance of Kevin Feige and set within the confines of the MCU, there's reason to believe we might finally see these characters on the big screen as they were meant to be seen.

Fantastic Four are back in August 2018.
