Cohen Arranged Payment for RNC Bigwig After Affair

Broidy admitted to the affair and pregnancy after the Wall Street Journal first reported Friday that in 2017 Cohen negotiated to pay $1.6 million to the former Playboy model on Broidy's behalf.

In another case, AMI, publishers of the National Enquirer, paid former Playboy playmate Karen McDougal to keep her trap shut about a months-long affair she claims to have had with Trump the same year he allegedly hooked up with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

According to the non-disclosure agreement described by the WSJ's sources, the woman says that the 60-year-old Broidy paid her money in exchange for an exclusive sexual relationship that lasted more than a year.

"She alone decided that she did not want to continue with the pregnancy and I offered to help her financially during this hard period", he said in a statement to the Journal. The payment bars the woman, who is based in Los Angeles, from speaking about her relationship with Broidy. He paid for the woman's abortion and then tossed in an extra $1.599 million because he wanted to "help her financially during this hard period".

The report says the pseudonyms for Broidy and the woman in the agreement also mirror those used in a separate nondisclosure agreement between Trump and an adult-film actress.

The FBI raided Cohen's office, hotel room and home earlier this week.

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, arranged the 2017 deal.

Broidy acknowledged the affair in the Journal's story.

In another deal, AMI paid a former doorman at one of Trump's buildings in Manhattan to keep him quiet about a rumored affair between Trump and a housekeeper who got pregnant and subsequently delivered a child. Cohen's team was accused of employing delay tactics and wildly overboard claims about attorney-client privilege, in order to obtain a temporary restraining order to stall the investigation. Daniels at the time of the payment was being represented by Keith Davidson, the same attorney who represented the woman in the Broidy negotiations, according to the Journal.

The deal bears remarkable similarities to an agreement reached between Donald Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels that was signed by Cohen and Daniels, but not Trump. "Although I had not previously hired Mr. Cohen, I retained Mr. Cohen after he informed me about his prior relationship with Mr. Davidson", Broidy said.

Broidy has blamed the government of Qatar and lobbyists working for Qatar for the hacking and leaking of his emails, but a federal judge in California wrote last week that he was unsure if Broidy could successfully sue the Middle East nation.

Mr. Broidy was a major fund-raiser for George W. Bush, but he is particularly connected in Mr. Trump's orbit.
