Former Coast to Coast AM Host Art Bell Dead at Age 72

Art Bell, a radio host best known for a paranormal -themed nightly show syndicated on hundreds of stations in the 1990s, has died at his home in Pahrump in southern Nevada. In this file image, he's pictured with his daughter, Asia, at his home studio in 2013.

The Nye County Sheriff's office confirmed the longtime Pahrump resident's death in a community announcement.

"Coast to Coast AM" airs on more than 600 stations nationwide and is broadcast Monday through Sunday from 1-5 a.m. ET, according to Premiere Networks, a subsidiary of iHeartMedia, the leading audio company in the United States.

The official cause of death for Art Bell hasn't been released.

The show developed a cult following after he created it in 1993 and was touted as the country's most listened to overnight radio programme. He would famously start out his broadcasts, "From the kingdom of Nye", an ode to Nye County, where Pahrump is located.

"I am not in good shape, so weak I can not dress myself", he wrote on the site.

It wasn't until 2006 is when the Vietnam veteran was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2006 and the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2008.
