Kendrick Lamar wins the Pulitzer Prize

Adding to his bevy of accomplishments, CNN has reported that Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN. The Pulitzer follows the five Grammy Awards won by Lamar in January for "DAMN.", his fourth studio album.

"(Kendrick's album is) a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life", a statement reads.

Over the years, Lamar has been praised and lauded for the diversity in his music. "It means that the jury and the board judging system worked as it's supposed to - the best work was awarded a Pulitzer Prize", said Dana Canedy, the administrator of the prizes, in an interview after the winners were announced. A Pulitzer Prize is awarded every year for a variety of different categories, with the category for music being awarded "For a distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year". Additionally, the Grammy-winning rapper is the most commercially-successful artist to ever receive the award. "This is a big moment for hip-hop music and a big moment for the Pulitzers".

Lamar has not commented publicly about his newest honor.

His three albums "good kid, m.A.A.d city, " "To Pimp a Butterfly" and "DAMN." have all gone on to become works of art.
