'Deadliest Catch' Star Blake Painter Dies at 38

Former Deadliest Catch captain Blake Painter was found dead in his home in OR on Friday, the Clatsop County Sheriff's office confirms to PEOPLE.

His body was found Friday after a friend called the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office after not hearing from him for days. Prescription pills were also at the home, but it is unclear if they played a role in his death.

Authorities say a friend of Painter's became anxious after not hearing from him for a couple of days and contacted police who went to Painter's home, where they determined he had been dead for several days. An autopsy and toxicology report had been ordered. Officers went to check on the 38-year-old and found he had been dead for several days. The paper said he was charged with DUI and heroin possession, among other things.

Painter was a second-generation fisherman, born and raised in Astoria and fished from the time he was 3, according to a fan site for Deadliest Catch.

Discovery Channel has not yet released a statement. He was known for being the captain of the F/V Maverick ship and pegged as an expert crab fisherman.
