Gennady Golovkin Annihilates Vanes Martirosyan In Two Rounds

That left a gaping hole in the schedule on May 5th but thankfully organisers were able to find a quick-fire replacement and although it's not quite as exciting as the rematch we all wanted to see, Vanes Martirosyan agreed to step in and save the show. Golovkin began asserting himself early in the second, however, and drove Martirosyan to the ropes with a right uppercut.

Another shot appeared to connect as Martirosyan touched the canvas, but referee Jack Reiss didn't penalize Golovkin. "Golovkin can not be careless going into this fight but no matter how it plays out he is sure to produce fireworks that will have fans on the edge-of-their-seats".

The IBF title was not at stake on Saturday because the group refused to sanction the bout.

"I am excited to show everyone how good I can be", Martirosyan said.

Golovkin said he would take on all comers, including Alvarez. Nevertheless, every aspect of Gennady Golovkin's fight plans had to change.

After scoring a decision win over Daniel Jacobs and a disputed draw with Alvarez in September, Golovkin got back to his finishing ways.

He pounded Martirosyan, a 2004 U.S. Olympian, with crushing blows he simply couldn't withstand.

"I was just hungry, training and training, and then that opportunity comes", Martirosyan said.

One of the most devastating punchers in the division, he disposed of all of his opponents in dominant fashion, with a high knockout percentage, he puts guys on the backfoot trying to avoid his suffocating pressure. It was all of his punches. "That is the hardest puncher I have ever faced".

Ultimately, Loeffler and Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), 36, a Kazakhstan native fighting out of Santa Monica, California, settled on Martirosyan as the late substitute.

Gennady Golovkin dominated Vanes Martirosyan, winning with a second-round knockout (courtesy of Sporting News). We are very pleased to be showcasing him once again live and exclusive on BoxNation this Saturday night against Vanes Martirosyan.

This time around, the Armenian-born challenger stood his ground in the first three minutes and landed six power punches to the champion's five. "In the second round, I came out all business after I felt him out in the first round".

However, if Martirosyan makes it to the final bell, the bigger question will be how much longer does Golovkin has left as one of the world's best?

He seemed opened to it Saturday after the fight, though.

Betfair Sportsbook traders want nothing to do with taking Gennady on in this fight and that makes flawless sense.

"Absolutely", he said when asked about Alvarez. "Nine years, I have 11 belts - come take my belts now".

Within 90 days Golovkin will have to conduct the defense of the IBF belt against mandatory Challenger Ukrainian Sergey Derevyanchenko.
