Matsuyama is coming off a disappointing performance in the Wells Fargo Championship, but finished in the top 20 at the Masters and had top-5 finishes in three of his first four starts this season.

Probably not. But with the Aussie playing his best golf again, he is a very real threat to procure back-to-back wins this week at THE PLAYERS Championship, a tournament that he won two years ago in wire-to-wire fashion.

We take another trip to Florida for the 2018 Players Championship, arguably the biggest event of the year outside of a major. No player has ever repeated at this tournament.

However a new-found vigor took the Australian to the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo title Sunday for his second win of 2018. It was already a big tournament, but putting it after the Masters and before the U.S. Open made for nice symmetry with each month from April to August featuring a signature event.

But this is what's so great about The Players Championship.

McIlroy is making his ninth start in golf's "fifth major" this week, and he has enjoyed three top-10 finishes in his last five appearances after struggling to get to grips with the course in his first few visits.

Sponsors, Shell, the PGA Tour, whoever... get this done! A player with his gifts should have won more than the four PGA Tour and two European Tour titles he now has to his name. The player pool will never be more stacked than it is right now. You may have also seen that Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are playing together as well.

1pt win Zach Johnson 60/1: its been a long time since he won the British Open but he loves Sawgrass, its all about iron play and he's the best. However, he finished in the top eight at Quail Hollow in strokes gained tee to green, which will be vital this week at TPC Sawgrass.

Rory McIlroy believes a conservative approach to taking on TPC Sawgrass is crucial to success at The Players Championship. "I'm not a fan of Pete Dye courses". Thought and precision must be combined on almost every shot to have success at Sawgrass.

There will, of course, be a huge amount of attention on Tiger Woods as he continues his comeback. Rickie Fowler is back at the site of his greatest victory, the one that was supposed to catapult his career. I just need to hit the back of the ball with a square clubface. But there are a lot of small areas to hit your tee shots, small areas to hit your second shots, and you've really got to think through the place and let it come to you. He has developed an unfortunate habit of getting to the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes and then spending the weekend shipping water, but he played some brilliant golf at Augusta when the heat was really on, and spoke positively afterwards about his experience. "There's no way of faking it around this golf course".

"TPC Sawgrass is in awesome condition, it's in fantastic shape". The 137 yard par 3, is anything but simple and has made countless memories over the years. One of those is Tiger Woods (+3300), who plays here for the first time since 2015.
