Police also said the girl's mother was on the phone with her when she was "brutally attacked" after arriving home from school.

It was unclear whether the attacker was waiting inside the home before Bagshaw's arrival.

French did not live in the home at the time of the murder, Sgt. Shearer said. Police officially named him as a suspect in Baleigh's murder after the arrest and said at a press conference Wednesday that tips had led them to consider him a suspect.

Police have not released details on the slaying. Investigators say French had lived in the same house as Bagshaw in the past but was no longer living there when she was found dead.

After the call disconnected, the mom phoned a neighbor and asked him to go check on Baleigh. He is being held in Colorado on three charges related unlawful sexual activity with a minor. Says the police sergeant, "I can't even guess what the mother would be going through right now". She alerted a neighbor, who went round to check on Baleigh before alerting police, who found her dead at just after 3pm. "Our hearts and thoughts are with her", Shearer said.

'And that's what makes everything so heartbreaking, honestly'. "She was really friendly and nice", Zamir told Deseret News. "She's always walking through that door and I'll be expecting her tonight".

A former high school classmate of French told KUTV that she was not surprised by the news of his arrest.

He is probably driving a camouflage-painted 1991 Daihatsu Rocky with Wyoming license plate #19-13974.

Baleigh Bagshaw had just returned home and was on the phone with her mother was she was attacked and killed. But when the vehicle left Bangerter Highway and headed east in the westbound lanes of state Route 201 with its headlights off, police terminated their pursuit, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce.
